Detailed Solution & Logic
Calcutta High Court/कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय
The Calcutta High Court (now Kolkata High Court) is the oldest High Court in India.
It was established on 1 July 1862 under the Indian High Courts Act, 1861 passed by the British Parliament.
Along with Calcutta, High Courts were also set up in Bombay (Mumbai) and Madras (Chennai) in the same year, but the Calcutta High Court was the first to be inaugurated.
The court’s jurisdiction initially extended over Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and Odisha.
Architecturally, the building was designed by Walter Granville and is modeled on the Cloth Hall in Ypres, Belgium.
