A rainbow is formed when sunlight interacts with raindrops present in the atmosphere after rain. The formation involves mainly three processes:

Refraction – Sunlight bends when it enters the raindrop.

Dispersion – White light splits into different colours because each colour has a different wavelength and bends differently.

Internal Reflection – The light reflects inside the raindrop and comes out again after refraction.

This combination produces the beautiful arc of seven colours seen in the sky.

बारिश के बाद वातावरण में मौजूद पानी की बूंदों से जब सूर्य का प्रकाश गुजरता है, तब इंद्रधनुष बनता है। इसमें मुख्य रूप से तीन प्रक्रियाएँ होती हैं:

अपवर्तन (Refraction) – प्रकाश बूंद में प्रवेश करते समय मुड़ जाता है।

वर्ण-विक्षेपण (Dispersion) – श्वेत प्रकाश अलग-अलग रंगों में विभाजित हो जाता है क्योंकि प्रत्येक रंग अलग मात्रा में मुड़ता है।

आंतरिक परावर्तन (Internal Reflection) – प्रकाश बूंद के अंदर परावर्तित होकर बाहर निकलता है।

इसी कारण आकाश में सात रंगों का इंद्रधनुष दिखाई देता है।
