Who is considered India’s first female teacher?

Savitribai Phule is considered India’s first female teacher. In 1848, she started teaching girls at the first school for women in Pune, which was opened by Jyotirao Phule and his associates.
At a time when educating girls was strongly opposed, she faced social discrimination and harassment but continued her work with great courage. She later opened several more schools for girls and for children from marginalized communities, becoming a pioneer of women’s education and social reform in India.
